The Latvian Association of Anthropologists, in collaboration with the National Library of Latvia, cordially invites you to the upcoming public talk in our Narrating the Human series.
Commencing 5 February until early 2020, the National Library of Latvia (NLL) is maintaining an educational site – www.luters.lv – a digital version of the stories in the NLL exhibition Luther. The Turn (01.11.2017.–04.02.2018.) about late medieval piety, Martin Luther's (1483–1546) struggle against indulgences and conflict with the Roman Catholic Church, the spread of his teachings and the way in which the Lutheran Reformation contributed to the development of the written Latvian language.
From February 2 till April 4 the National Library of Latvia at its Conference Centre (Level -1) will host an exhibition – Independence (curator Yoram E. Shamir) reflecting the creative work of Latvian born Shamir brothers. Free admission.
On 1 February 18.00 the Latvian Association of Anthropologists, in collaboration with the National Library of Latvia, invites you to the upcoming public talk Rules of Thumb: Auto-stop 'Carporeality' by anthropologist Patrick Laviolette in our Narrating the Human series. The talk will take place in Baltic Research Centre for East Asian Studies (ASIARES) Reading Room (level M). Language – English. Admission – free.
The National Library of Latvia (NLL) is closed to visitors on public holidays, on the second Monday of each month (Maintenance day) and during diplomatic events. Summer opening times apply from 1 July until 31 August.
On 7-9 December 2017 you are welcome to visit the conference "Medieval Livonia and Its Historical Heritage". The Conference will take place at the National Library of Latvia and is the second in the series of conferences organized on the occasion of the Centenary of the Republic of Latvia.
Photography exhibition Feelings Near Me held by the Foundation "Come Along" is displaying photography from long time participants in the foundation – young people with disibilities and children from Riga’s Boarding school for the deaf and hard of hearing. These photos represent a wide range of moments that young photographers have tried to perpetuate; A fragrent field of grain after threshing, a grandmother in her cottage, the moments in the sounds of music… Exhibition can be viewed at the Conference Centre (level -1) at the National Library of Latvia till 30 December. Free admission.
