Exhibition "A Need to Write. Three Stories About the Written Word" is dedicated to unusual episodes in the history of the written word – the scripts of the Brethren congregations in the Latvian cultural and historical region Vidzeme in the mid-18th century, print ban in Latgale in the second half of the 19th century and letters written on birch bark in Siberia in the 1940ties. These three historical episodes draw attention to the importance of the written word in people's lives, when writing was a necessity and escape from situations where freedom was limited.
