EuropeanaTravel is a new EU-funded project that will channel digital content from Europe’s national and university libraries into Europeana.eu. Starting on May 1st and running for 2 years, EuropeanaTravel will digitise over a million resources, including maps, manuscripts, photos, films, books and postcards on the themes of travel, tourism, trade routes and exploration.

The National Library of Latvia Starts Mass Digitalization of Resources

On January 22 first materials of periodicals and books selected for scanning were taken from the National Library of Latvia (NLL) to „Lattelecom BPO” SIA. This is the first dispatch initiating mass digitalization of NLL resources that in the future will provide wider possibilities for studying cultural and historical materials for larger scope of library users and will allow acquiring of even very specific information in very short period of time.

Presence. Hamsun in Latvia

The exhibition “Presence. Hamsun in Latvia” dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the Norwegian writer Knut Hamsun will open at the Small Hall of the Latvian National Museum of Art on October 2, 2009 at 5 p.m.

The year 2009 is celebrated as a memorial year of the Norwegian iconic writer, Nobel prize winner Knut Hamsun (1859-1952). It has been marked with various cultural activities in Latvia, too.
