Photo Exhibition „To See Wales!”

The photo exhibition is a joint project of the National Library of Wales and the National Library of Latvia, which holds 126 photos collected in a style of photo coverage. It is worth noting that this exhibition is also an unusual gift. This year the National Library of Wales celebrates its centenary. And in this year, which has a special importance for it, it becomes a donor; it holds out its hand in greeting and opens its world of thoughts and emotions to Latvia.

The authors of the exhibition – the employees of the National Library of Wales - Sarah Lee Branch, Mark Davy, Gered Loyd Hues and Simon Evans have used the camera to record the beauty, the treasures of nature, the people of their native land – in life, events, changes.

Mark Davy has been involved in photography for more than 20 years. He has participated in numerous international photo exhibitions. Favours black and white photos. Disapproves of digital photo. Focuses upon Welsh life, society.

Sarah Lee Branch – is interested in archaeology and architecture, uses the forgotten form of black and white photo. Her objective in this exhibition was “to show my native land in a way that would arouse interest in people who don’t know, haven’t see Wales.”

Gered Loyd Hues – a photographer and artist. The eye of his camera was turned to the beauty of Welsh nature, the infinity of the sea. Open spaces and the sky dominate in the photographer’s works. He is also favouring black and white photo.

Simon Evans – has been carrying a camera with him since the age of 12, to be on time, to eternalize, to stop the moment. The artist likes places that are difficult to access – mountain tops and valleys overgrown with trees, old mines deep in the mountains. Simon Evans is excited by forms and colours.

The exhibition contains also 12 short films. The visitors will have the opportunity to try to understand the souls, world view of the Welsh people within a few minutes (3-10). In the contemporary life, mythology, fairy-tales.
