The magazine “Library World” is a specialised periodical edition of the library sector.

The mission of the magazine – to reinforce the importance of libraries in knowledge society, their diverse functions and possibilities, to emphasize the need for a uniform and coordinated library system in the age of information revolution – the 21^st century.

Objectives:

1. To educate the employees working in the sector by providing the most recent findings, reviewing various theories and concepts of library science, information science and related branches.
2. To inform librarians, interested persons of related branches on the novelties in library work.
3. To initiate and activate sharing of opinions and discussions, to promote the development of theoretical thought and applied solutions to problems.
4. To provide motivation for improvement, to inspire for future work and to create a feeling of professional community.

The target audience of the edition – everyone linked to library life in Latvia – library managers, employees of public, research, special and school libraries, students of the sector, specialists of book sector, employees of related institutions of “culture memory” and other interested persons.

The range of topics:

• novelties of the library sector in Latvia and the world
• theoretical quests in the sector of library science, information science and related disciplines, conceptions and future visions
• insight into the applied experience of libraries
• analysis of the problems of the sector
• issues in providing information services to children and adolescents
• cooperation between libraries and related institutions of culture – archives, museums, etc.
• the most important traditional and digital resources of the library sector

Representatives of library management and advisory institutions; members of professional public organisations (Latvian Librarians Association, Association of Latvian Academic Libraries, Society of Latvian School Libraries), employees of public and research, universal and social libraries; faculty members of the University of Latvia, Faculty of Social Sciences, Department of Information Science and Library Science; lecturers of Latvian Culture College, Department of Library Science and Information; employees of foreign libraries are among the authors contributing to “Library World”.

The magazine has a contemporary and attractive design and high quality print work, it is richly illustrated. The editorial board, consisting of specialists of library science, book sector and information science, guarantees the quality of the contents.

Everybody, who feels as part of the library world, is welcome to take part in the creation of the magazine!

Anybody, wishing to share one’s successes, achievements, problems or experience, to inform about events can become an author contributing to “Library World”. We shall be grateful for assessments of the contents of the magazine, suggestions for new topics. Your questions, ideas and proposals are welcome!
