Since April 2005 the Training Centre of the NLL has successfully improved the lower and medium level professional qualification of Latvian librarians and educated the employees of the NLL in the framework of the project “Unified State Library Information System", by July 2007 1190 librarians had been trained.

The lecturers of the NLL Training Centre are librarians – practitioners, recognised authorities of various branches of library work. In 2005 in the assessment questionnaires, filled in by the participants of the training, 82 % of the assessment were positive; in 2007 it was already 93.3 %. The librarians approve of the contents of the training and the methods used – lectures, seminars, group work, the possibility to apply the theoretical knowledge in practice.

If the librarians meet all the requirements set for the training, they receive a certificate issued by the state agency “Culture Information Systems” and the NLL.
